Community Honors 2010 Graduates During Commencement and Partners Day

Harrisburg University of Science and Technology graduated its fourth class of students on May 20, 2010, and thanked the partners that invested their time, talent and treasures to the University. Dr. Kenneth W. Mack, an alumnus of Harrisburg’s public schools who is now a professor at Harvard Law School, delivered the Commencement Address and urged graduates to pursue their passions. Dr. Mel Schiavelli, president of Harrisburg University, later presented Dr. Mack with a degree of Doctor of Public Service honoris causa in recognition of his exceptional commitment to civil rights and social equity. A copy of his remarks is found here: http://www.law.harvard.edu/news/2010/06/related-content/mackcommencementharrisburg05.20.10.pdf

Dr. Schiavelli noted during the ceremony that 92 percent of all the University’s students have been employed in their field of study on the day they graduated, and most of the graduates remain in the region.

“We are building the future of Central Pennsylvania,” he told the graduates and their families.
